though the night owl sighs
the darkness has not covered

to escape terrors
of dying before living
only to be caged

feet slide into muds
like earthen velvet slippers
padding through the trees

did you know that man
who talked to you of protest
and peaceful fighting

a million dances
of freely flowing bodies
as rivers and lives

sun upon the leaves
is a glowing flame of life
lifting souls and skies

poverty of self
is the most painful sorrow
and stubbornest friend

I'm more adept at
baring my soul through music
though you may not hear

settle in to peace
and forgive the dark moments
of unknowingness

of laughing delight
